My wife got this for me for Father's Day and I'm in love with it. And her. I love both of them. But not equally, I love my wife, much much more. Here are five things you didn’t know about the new Tissot PRX Chronograph. These are my opinions, and let me caveat this with the fact that I'm still in the honeymoon phase. Hope you enjoy the video.

This watch has sparked and waved flames on two debate that have captured the hearts and minds of enthusiasts since this years watches and wonders. Do I care if a watch I very much love, is very much thick? The Tudor black bay pro was the spark and this is the gasoline. The second debate is on the best automatic chronograph, under $2,000. Maybe even under $2500 or more. Go look for the most affordable automatic chronograph you can find. Is it thinner than this? Okay, is it an accurate movement? Okay, is it as good looking as this? If you answered yes to all of these questions, you are probably looking at a quartz watch which isn’t automatic, a vintage piece on eBay or a watch that wasn’t made in Switzerland, Germany, Japan or France. Join these debates, how thick is your thickest watch, does that keep you from loving it? Leave a comment with your favorite automatic chronograph and tell me the price and the thickness. What’s the best automatic chronograph under $3k. This has my vote. Let’s take a look at the dial.
This blue is from Star Trek. The vertical brushing creates a holographic dial like nothing I have ever seen before. Every time you look at it, It transforms— in different lighting, at different angles, and of course at different times of day. The only thing that doesn’t change is this stellar contrast and legibility against this brilliantly silver framed off white subdials. Sometimes it’s a navy blue that May look black and make for a very handsome reverse panda. Or it’s a royal blue, like a dim cerulean in sunlight. It’s beyond vibrant, it feels technologically advanced and interesting. With a linen dial you can become familiar with the pattern of the designer dial. Not here— this brushing will bring a lifetime of visual interest at every glance.
The pushers are flexible yet confidence inspiring. By flexible if you can see here, they can move slightly which brings me joy because it means when you push these while at different angles, the mechanism is forgiving. What do I mean by that. With some pushers, if you do it at an angle, it can bend or damage the pusher and make it loose. With these, they really operate like futuristic buttons on a spaceship (and look like it too!) let’s talk confidence: When you push this pusher it clicks with confidence like that click when you lock your front door, it’s a purposeful sound that elicits intentionality and only comes with high quality movements and construction. You can’t operate this chronograph by accident and I’m in love with that.

It’s not all sundials and rainbows, right? There are two features of this watch that you will either love or hate. This helium escape valve will not save you or your watch’s life because this is not a helium escapement. You gotta push this button to change the date. If you’re a klutz you might scratch your own watch case or if you’re the kind of person a la Jack Forster of Hodinkee, who enjoys a spectrum of multivariate engagements with your watch you’ll fall in love this intimate feature you only get with beautiful mechanical timepieces.
The packaging is 100% recyclable. Good job Tissot. Complaining about this packaging is just complaining about environmental sustainability for the earth which is awkward. I get it, this is luxury, you want to have the best of the best. Yet at less than $1800, this watch, with its finishing, it’s legibility, it’s traditional yet futuristic case with best in class movement, in my opinion, not it’s packaging,
My person opinion: This is the most stylish and perhaps best looking watch Tissot has ever released. It’s a science fiction watch with innovation to empower its vintage pizazz. The PRX quartz doesn’t hit all the markers and is missing a framed date window that the pm80 has. The pm80 has the beloved waffle dial yet is a bit tame. This has provenance both in the movement and In these intricate subdials. They opened photoshop, selected this bezel and case and dragged it to enlarge it so the proportions are still decadent and just right yet with even more shine and bling from the polished edges and more sophistication imho.
May be the best you can do under $2000. Leave a comment and let me know how you feel about this watch.
