🇷🇸 OVČAR BANJA, SERBIA - Welcome to another Serbia Travel series! Two of my previous trips were heavily impacted by the pandemic, but in 2021 I managed to explore quite extensively, visiting outstanding locations such as Kruševac, Subotica, Bajina Bašta and more!

I’m once again based in one of my favourites - Užice, in Zlatibor. We’re heading further afield for now - a Serbian Orthodox Monastery Adventure in the nearby Ovčar Banja, not far from Čačak - known as Serbia’s Holy Mountain or Serbia’s Mount Athos!

The history in this region of the Balkans dates back around 900 years in relation to monasteries. The entire region is covered with them, most of which are incredibly isolated and secluded due to the very nature of them.

I’ve always sensed that Serbia is an underrated country, particularly compared to one of its neighbours, Croatia, as well as countries in Western Europe. But, over the years, I’ve found there’s just as much beauty, history and architecture (and amazing Serbian food) to discover, with many possible day trips from Belgrade!
