Japan unveils $708 billion in fresh stimulus to revive coronavirus-hit economy

Japan has announced a fresh $708-billion stimulus package aimed at reviving its coronavirus-hit economy. This is Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga’s first budget since he took office in September. A $14.4 billion emergency fund will be allocated to the rural areas affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Companies developing green technologies can tap on a $19.2 billion fund, while $9.6 billion has been allocated to spur digitalisation. The Suga Cabinet's approval rating has plummeted due to its handling of the pandemic.
