2022-04-27 CoastGuard Mooloolaba arrange for a poignant ashes scattering earlier this week

Maike and his son and a friend went fishing overnight a couple of years ago, when their boat started to sink. All 3 were thrown into the water just after getting out a solitary MayDay call which was picked up by our Radio Room Operator at just before 2am. If not for this call, Maike feels sure that the 3 of them would have perished that night. In spite of that it was more than 6 hours later before the Search and Rescue located them clinging on to an upturned bucket while desperately trying to keep the 7-year-old alive. Maike and CoastGuard keep in touch still, and we were proud to be asked to arrange an ashes scattering for his mum. He kindly gave us permission to video the ceremony and show this video here as an example of what we also do for the community.
