Advocacy Group criticises NIRA's move to lend 50 card readers to UCC

An Advocacy group known as the Unwanted Witness has said the move by the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to give the Uganda Communications Commission 50 identity card readers, meant to be distributed to different telecom companies, is in violation of the law.

Unwanted Witness also fears that giving third parties like telecom companies access to the identity card data could leave most Ugandans vulnerable to cyber-crime.
