State Level Speech Contest 1st Place Win! - Moment of Crisis

In order to conquer my fear of public speaking I (reluctantly) enrolled in a public speaking club. This meant lots of speeches, then speech competitions and eventually winning speech competitions.

Understand that Toastmasters competitions sometimes reward the most animated speech, not necessarily the most authentic. I did my best to bridge the two categories, delivering a speech that was humorous but also closer to the truth than I like to admit!

So consider it personal study how much a speech can morph just by tweaking the delivery. The experience gave me a peek into what comedians do preparing for a comedy special. Record every performance and tweak it night after night for the greatest effect. I was the final 11th speaker in front of an audience sitting in uncomfortable chairs in a stuffy room for 2 hours. So not only were they relieved to be done, they got a surprise humorous speech which undoubtedly affected the judging in my favor.
