The 2019 monsoon season was one of the driest on record. The high was in place as was the moisture. The hot mid-levels prevented storms from reaching their potential (capped). Many of the lightning storms came through completely dry, while others produced heavy rain but no lightning. The late May storms in the West caused wet soil moisture and extended snow in the mountains. This caused a significant delay in start of the monsoon. The monsoon remained almost a complete fail for most of the summer.
