Using salt in your watercolour painting can create some beautiful effects that will enhance your paintings. In this video I demonstrate how to apply salt to your watercolour painting and I show you some examples of where I have used it in my own paintings.

I painted the salt washes on Arches hot press paper using Winsor & Newton's Winsor Violet.

The first salt I used was ordinary table salt.
The second salt I used was course sea salt that I put in my grinder for table use.

If you have't tried this technique before, practice on some scrap paper first.
