Fire investigators and multiple agencies have taken custody of the remains of the MISS DUNIA, destroyed by fire August 30, 2021.
The first call came in to the Fairhaven Fire Department at 5:17 PM. New Bedford Fire Dept sounded a 2nd Alarm.
Firefighters had difficulty reaching what was some smoke emitting from the 92-foot vessel's port side. Within a 20-minute span, flames broke out, with heavy black smoke engulfing the entire yacht on all decks. The acrid smoke with fumes of burning plastic and fiberglass, were carried by westerly winds across Fairhaven, and as far away as Carver.
The 92-ton yacht, built in 2007, was recently overhauled at St. Augustine Marine Center, Augustine, Florida.

The tug CAMDYN of Tucker-Roy Marine Towing and Salvage, located just a few hundred yards away oversaw the movement of the vessel to a "secured location" for further investigation of the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.
