The American Battleship USS Wisconsin (BB-64)

USS Wisconsin (BB-64) was the second Iowa-class battleship built for the United States Navy, representing the pinnacle of American fast battleship design during World War II. Commissioned in April 1944, she combined immense firepower, speed, and advanced fire control systems—traits that made her one of the most formidable surface combatants of her era.
Designed to escort fast carrier task forces and deliver devastating shore bombardments, Wisconsin embodied the U.S. Navy’s doctrine of overwhelming firepower and mobility in the Pacific Theater.

Service and Operations
Wisconsin entered service late in World War II but quickly proved her worth. She was modernized during the Cold War and reactivated a final time in the 1980s as part of President Reagan’s 600-ship Navy, receiving Tomahawk cruise missiles and Harpoon anti-ship missiles—transforming her into a hybrid of classic battleship and modern missile platform.
Wisconsin’s last combat service came during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, where she launched Tomahawk missiles against Iraqi targets. She was finally decommissioned in 1991 and now serves as a museum ship in Norfolk, Virginia.
