A Room for London - Laurie Anderson - #4 (March 2012)

Laurie Anderson in 'A Room for London'

This performance was part of "Sounds from a Room", an Artangel production, broadcasted as a live video stream from a hotel installation on the roof of the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London.

In part 4, Laurie recommends books like "84, Charing Cross Road" by Helene Hanff, "Zona" by Geoff Dyer (an incredible book about a room), and, of course, "Moby Dick" by Herman Melville, "master of the jump-cut".

Here's Laurie's piece of advice for those who aspire to pay musical tribute to their favourite piece of art: "If you have any ideas of doing an opera based on a book that you love - don't do it."

Oh, and let's not forget about William Shatner and his Advance Directive. Yes, it's Mr. Captain-of-Enterprise Shatner, who, in addition, turns out to be a relative of Laurie's family, ha. (Not sure what Advance Directive means? Find it out yourself at cca. 12:10 into the video.)
