White House NOW DOING THIS to FORCE Stimulus (NEW APPROACH)

The White House pivoted its approach to stimulus negotiations today, with the President’s aides pushing for immediate action on a narrow, interim measure after the administration’s $1.8 trillion proposal was rebuffed by members of both parties.

Talks between Speaker Pelosi and Treasury Secretary continue, but according to Politico, they "appear to be dead on arrival in the Senate" (refer to our sources in the description section below). Republicans aren’t taking issue with a policy or two, they’re taking issue with the entire package, the number, the scope and the policies. There doesn’t appear to be a middle ground here.

The only hope is that the President somehow convinces Republicans to pass this package in a few weeks.

In a letter to Congress sent today, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin asked lawmakers to first pass legislation allowing the Trump administration to redirect about $130 billion in unused funding from the Paycheck Protection Program intended for small businesses while negotiations continue on a broader relief effort.

The administration’s latest request is unlikely to advance in the House, where Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has rejected stand-alone legislation in favor of a comprehensive package to address the economic and health consequences of the pandemic. The administration’s $1.8 trillion stimulus proposal on Friday also came under heavy criticism from Republican lawmakers this weekend, making its chances of passing appear remote.
