The NEW Sony 50-150 f2.0 GM 🤌

This time, Sony has made a lens NO other manufacturer has. This is a completely new optical formula by @sonyalpha .

The 50-150 GM joins the 28-70 GM as Sony’s second constant f2.0 aperture zoom lens.

Amazingly, this lens is around the same size as the 70-200 gm II, and only weighs about 300 grams more - in my opinion, that’s a pretty solid tradeoff for a whole extra stop of light.

While I love that Sony is making ‘super’ G Master lenses now (maybe they need to create an additional tier above ‘normal’ f2.8 G masters), I do think this lens’ price point is tough…I was told this lens will be priced at $3899 USD, $5400 CAD at launch.

It’s not that I don’t think this lens is necessarily ‘worth’ the price, because it’s an incredible, one-of-a-kind tool, but I just wish this lens had a ‘standout’ feature in addition to the f2.0 aperture: Great macro capabilities and/or a new teleconverter this could work with (for example)…just a little extra to justify the price over the 70-200 GM II.

Another disappointment is there’s no optical stabilization built into this lens…seems to me like this is something Sony is doing away with overall in exchange for in-body and digital stabilization 🤔 but I did expect some OSS on a telephoto zoom.

The zoom ring is also unbelievably smooth - I can move it with ease using just my thumb. Pretty great for shooting action sports, but not the best when you don’t want to change your focal length by accident - something I found myself zoom more than I wanted.

DISCLOSURE: Sony didn’t pay me to make this vid - they didn’t even ask me to. However, they did send me this lens pre-release in order to test it out.
