How to Protect Your Straw Hat from Water
Are you looking to give your hat the most care? Do you want to protect your hat from stains or water damage?
Treating your hat with a water repellent spray will absolutely preserve the life of your favorite hats! Our recommended Paul Lashton brand is designed exclusively to treat Panama and Straw hats, as the repellent has been tested to not discolor the straw, and has also been tested to work well with our organic fibers. The Paul Lashton Repellent Kit includes everything you'll need to properly treat your hat with a water repellent: a horsehair brush, hat wipes, latex gloves, and the water repellent.
Instructions:
1. Brush and clean off any existing dirt or dust upon the hat.
2. Use a damp microfiber cloth or hat wipes to spot clean any stubborn stains.
3. Test spray the repellent away from the hat, in a well-ventilated area. This will clear the nozzle from any repellent sitting previous sprays so it can provide a uniform spread.
4. While holding the hat securely or letting it sit on a rack, spray the repellent over the outside of the hat from 6-10 inches away, using very light coats. The goal is to apply several very light coats rather than heavy, fewer coats. (If too much water is applied, clean up the excess using a microfiber cloth.)
5. Allow hat to sit for 1 hour before treating the inside of the hat. Repeat step 4 with the interior of the hat.
6. Allow hat to dry for a full 24 hours to completely cure.
7. Now your hat will repel against stains and will survive in light rain!

The Panama hat is a finely woven hat made out of toquilla palms on Ecuador’s Pacific coast. The finer the weave, the finer the hat. A hat that is considered to be of Ultrafino grade contains at least 600 weaves per square inch and takes about 6 months to make. When the company was started in 2003 the first hat ever sold was an Ultrafino grade Panama Hat. The name Ultrafino had a certain feeling of excitement, uniqueness, and quality. We wanted all of our products to radiate the same feeling of owning an Ultrafino grade hat. And so began Ultrafino Panama Hats.
Ultrafino means ultra-fine in Spanish and it has become the raw definition of the company. Everything we do is aligned to the name. We strive to provide ultra-fine customer service while providing ultra-fine quality hats.
