Groucho serenades Liberace - Rare clip from You Bet Your Life (Mar 8, 1956)

This rare clip is both a real treat for Groucho fans, and totally baffling at the same time. As many Groucho fans are aware, he took his guitar playing very seriously, despite never making it much a part of his act. Oh, there are snippets here and there in his films, but not a lot. Here, though, he accompanies himself through a straight rendition of an entire song, Irving Berlin's "I Love a Piano".

Only Groucho would have Liberace as a guest on his program and, rather than have him actually play, just make him stand there smiling his Liberace smile while Groucho serenades him with a song about pianos played on a guitar. Liberace is his typical very gracious self about the whole thing, but you've got to wonder if he knew this was coming!
