Joan Baez sings 'Long Black Veil' from her 1963 Vanguard album 'Joan Baez In Concert, Part 2'. This song was written by Marijohn Wilkin and Danny Dill and Dill called it an "instant folksong." The lyrics have an executed man (innocent, but not giving an alibi because he had been "in the arms of my best friend's wife") telling of her walking the hills and visiting his grave. Baez recorded this version with only her guitar in a live performance during her early 1963 concert tour. She recorded it later in 1969 with great country musicians. Both versions have identical lyrics. The song was first a hit for Lefty Frizzell and later recorded by many including Johnny Cash and Bill Monroe. [Vinyl/Lyrics/26 Images]
