NATO troops carry out military drills in Lithuania

ALLIED NATO soldiers take part in international military exercise at the German-led NATO battalion base in Rukla, Lithuania.

Soldiers trained for possible contamination scenarios, wearing protective gear and hosing down tanks.

In a statement to the press, German Bundeswehr Operations Command Chief, Lieutenant General Bernd Schutt said Germany was ready to make more troops available to NATO.

"You have to take care of the whole region," he said, adding that the German armed forces' main efforts lay with the collective defence security situation of NATO's eastern flank.

Lithuania's president Gitanas Nauseda visited the battalion base on Tuesday.
