FANI LOWENKRON plays ESTHER SCLIAR SONATA MOV.2, rec.. 1977

Fani Lowenkron was born in Rio de Janeiro, in 1944, into a family of Polish Jews . She started to play very soon. She has a wonderful Curriculum. She had 3 very great teachers in Brazil. First Heitor Alimonda, then the wonderful ARNALDO ESTRELLA, with whom she studied for 6 years, during her graduation and post-graduation on the University of Brazil. She studied afterwards with the excellent pianist HOMERO DE MAGALHÃES and was the first brazilian to study at JUILLIARD SCHOOL as an award of Fullbright . In 1971 she moved to New York and studied for 4 years with MIECZYSLAW MUNZ , one of the greatest teacher of XX century and an excellent Busoni´s pupil; she played so well that earnt a piano . In USA she was admired by CLAUDIO ARRAU, RUBINSTEIN and others. She was also an actress , singer, dancer... This pic was take around 1970. Before she goes to NY, was very close to the greatest brazilian writer of XX century, CLARICE LISPECTOR, who wrote a chronic in which Fani is very mentioned and in 60´s, when LILI KRAUS came to Brazil, liked her performance and said she played in a very sensitive way and with a beautiful toucher . In 1978 she had made Master Classes playing and teaching all the 27 Chopin Études and became Professor of the University. She played in Russia, Sweden, USA (she loves NY more than ever places) and a very much in Israel. During 80´s she traveled on tournées but dedicated mostly to teaching and she played several times on television until 1990. Then, she made some masterclasses and traveled sometimes to play in NY, Israel and Sweden. Since 2000 until nowadays she dedicates herself on teaching and eventually makes concerts or play on th radio. She is member of the National Academy of Music. This recording was made in 1982 and this sonata is a quite difficult and very beautiful piece. There are 3 movements, this first is ¨allegro¨ , this second solemnis and piu animatobut is missing the 3rd. Only Fani can record it. She is my dear friend. :) Esther Scliar was considered the most important teacher of music structure, analysis, fraseology, and was an excellent composer. Nevertheless she destroyed her works and in 1979 she commited suicide. Fani was one of her favorite pupil and Scliar accepted only her interpretation of this Sonata and did not publish it.
