Iceland Walking Tour - Reykjavík Summer [4K]

Reykjavík walking tour in Summer 2020. This 1 hour walking tour took place in beautiful weather in July. We walk from Laugardalur valley to Laugavegur street and end at Hallgrímskirkja church.

Info about the tour:
00:00 - We start the tour in Laugardalur valley, known for its variety of sports and recreational activities such as swimming, soccer, handball, basketball, a botanical garden and a zoo. We will now explore parts of the botanical garden.
01:45 - This fountain is Fyssa by Rúrí.
05:00 - These are the washing pools. For a long time they were used by washing women, until the 1930's when district heating replaced them.
07:35 - Laugardalsvöllur, Iceland's national football stadium and home venue for the Iceland national football team. It has a capacity of 9,800 people.
12:42 - Laugarneskirkja church to the right.
20:00 - Looking over Faxaflói bay. Reykjavík is located on its southern shore.
21:00 - Straight ahead the dark towers belong to Skuggahverfi (Shadow district). To the right of Shadow district we see Harpan concert house. To the left we see the tower of Hallgrímskirkja church and a glass tower called Höfðatorg.
23:30 - This is Höfði lighthouse. Its yellow design is based on that of the channel lighthouses that were used in Reykjavík's old harbour.
24:07 - The white house is Höfði. Former home of poet Einar Benediktsson.
In 1986 USA president Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbatsjev met in this house, a meeting now known as the Reykjavik Summit.
26:00 - The Partnership sculpture. A gift from the United States to celebrate 50 years (1991) of good diplomatic relationship between Iceland and the USA. By Pétur Bjarnason.
32:30 - Now entering Laugavegur. Reykjavík's most famous shopping street.
41:38 - This sculpture is Rætur (Roots) by Steinunn Þórarinsdóttir.
42:13 - Now entering Austurstræti street.
44:47 - Ingólfstorg. A small public square with shops and events.
46:27 - Horfur (Prospects) by Steinunn Þórarinsdóttir.
50:10 - A statue of Skúli Magnússon, "founder of Reykjavík".
50:57 - The broken rock is Svarta Keilan (The Black Cone) by Santiago Sierra.
51:00 - Now entering Austurvöllur, a public square.
51:21 - A statue of Jón Sigurðsson, leader of the 19th century Icelandic independence movement.
53:00 - Alþingi, the Parliament House to the right. Reykjavík Cathedral to the left.
53:56 - The house on the hill is MR (Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík), the oldest junior college in Iceland.
55:20 - Reykjavík pond.
55:31 - Iðnó straight ahead. It is a restaurant, café and a cultural centre.
56:40 - Fríkirkjan church (Free Church).
57:14 - Listasafn Íslands. National Gallery of Iceland.
01:23:04 - Looking down Skólavörðustræti street.
01:06:17 - Hallgrimskirkja church and a statue of Leif Eiriksson, a norse explorer from Iceland and the first known European to have set foot on continental North America.
01:07:28 - The Einar Jónsson Museum sculpture garden.
