China 'is out to do Australia economic harm' because it wants to 'silence us'

There is no doubt China is out to do Australia economic harm because it wants to "quiet us down, and stop us from criticising them," according to President of the Pastoralists and Graziers Association of Western Australia, Tony Seabrook.

“I’m a barley grower and we took the first hit,” Mr Seabrook told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“They put the embargo or that tariff of 81 per cent on Australian barley, which basically put us out of the marketplace. That was the first sort of shot that they fired. Whether they didn’t feel they got enough of a reaction from the government on that, I’m not sure, but they’re certainly coming at us again.

“What we can do is not really very much.

“They are out to do us economic harm, there’s no doubt about that.

“There are reasons why they want to harm us. They want to quiet us down; they want to stop us from criticising them doing the things we as a free nation, don’t feel they shouldn’t be doing.

“And the way they’re doing it is to hit the one industry that they can basically go elsewhere to source supplies.

“They’re out to bring pressure to bear on agriculture, in the hope that we might bring pressure to bear on the government.

“They’ve completely miscalculated.

“The mood out here in the bush is one of absolute fury.

“We are a nation that stands on our values and we should stand on those values, and I don’t think they’ve got the reaction from us they were hoping for.”
