So eye-opening! Getting my prosthetic eyes adjusted and polished

For those of you who are new to my channel, I am 100% completely blind with no light perception and have been this way for almost 13 years. I have been partially blind since the age of three. My blindness is from an eye disease called Uveitis, a by-product of the root disease Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis.

To give you a bit more background about this video. I wear prosthetic scleral acrylic shells on top of my natural existing eyes. Since going completely blind, both of my natural eyes have atrophied, they have shrunk to a very small size and have clouded over.

My prosthetics give my eyes a more healthy appearance. Since my eyes are very small and my eyelids are not able to hold open very wide, the prosthetics help me to feel more awake and assist me with keeping my eyes open with less effort :-)

As you will see/hear in this video, my ocularist, Christina King, from the Center for Ocular Prosthetics in Portland Oregon is simply amazing and so talented. In this video, Christina is adjusting two sets of my prosthetic eyes, as well as polishing them and making them look glossy and new.

I am so grateful for people like Christina because of her gifting and her compassion to enhance and change lives. She has played an important role in helping to give me more confidence with coping with my blindness, giving me more confidence just to be me. I am absolutely not ashamed of the appearance of my natural eyes, but because of my prosthetics they give me back a part of me I lost almost 13 years ago. And come on, you know how much I love showing the world my favorite show and tell haha! There is so much more to people than what meets the eye! Through my ability to take out my eyes, it shows people that I am still me with or without my eyes. Also I have so much fun with it. Through my challenges I have learned you can find joy even in the midst of darkness. Always remember Joy is a choice! 💛
