이국적인 풍경에 몸과 마음까지 푸르게
보성은 우리나라 차의 80% 이상을 생산하는 대표적인 차 산지이다. 보성 지역에 대규모로 차가 재배되기 시작한 것은 일제 때로 거슬러 올라간다. 일본인들이 차의 재배지로 선택한 곳이 보성으로 기후가 온화하고 강수량이 충분하며 산 사면이 잘 가꾸어져 있어 차 재배지로 최적이었던 것이다. 물론 이전 조선시대 책에서도 이곳에서 차를 재배했다는 기록을 찾을 수 있지만 지금과 같은 모습으로 만들어진 것은 일제 때라고 하겠다.
보성에는 여러 차밭이 있는데 그중 일반에게 가장 잘 알려진 곳이 바로 대한다원이다. 한 통신사의 광고로 처음 대중에게 소개되었고, 이후에 광고나 영화 등에서 배경으로 사용되면서 널리 알려졌다. 입구에서 걸어들어가는 삼나무 숲이 매력 포인트인 이곳은 안으로 들어가면 입구에서 보이지 않던 넓은 차밭이 푸르게 펼쳐져 있다.
여러 편의 시설이 잘 마련되어 있으며, 곳곳에 그늘과 쉴 수 있는 휴식처가 마련되어 있다는 것이 다른 다원과 구별되는 특징이다. 처음 일반에게 개방할 때는 입장료가 없었으나 관람객이 많아지면서 녹차잎의 훼손이 심해 입장료를 받는다고 하는데 관람객들이 이곳 다원에서 소비하는 다른 요소들을 생각해 본다면 조금 아쉬운 부분이다. 이왕이면 이른 아침에 이곳을 방문해보자. 안개 내린 차밭 사이로 햇살이 비칠 때의 그 푸른빛이 참으로 황홀하다.

There are several tea fields in Boseong, but the most well-known one among them is Daehan Tea Garden. It was first introduced to the public through an advertisement by a news agency, and later became widely known as it was used as a background in advertisements and movies. The pine forest that you walk into from the entrance is a charming point, and once you enter, you will see a wide green tea field that was not visible from the entrance.
It is characterized by various convenient facilities and rest areas where you can rest and shade in various places, which sets it apart from other tea gardens. When it first opened to the public, there was no admission fee, but as the number of visitors increased, the damage to the green tea leaves became severe, so they started charging an admission fee. Considering the other things that visitors consume at this tea plantation, it is a bit disappointing. If possible, visit here early in the morning. The blue color when the sunlight shines through the misty tea fields is truly enchanting.
