Blowout: Baghjan Oil field well no 5 , Oil India Ltd. Assam.(Some Clips 1st day to 172th days)

India's second largest oil company Oil India Ltd. had doused a fire at a gas well at the Baghjan oilfield in the Tinsukia district in eastern Assam state , after almost six months on 15th November 2020. Oil India said that it is abandoning all operations at the well.
The gas well in the Baghjan oilfield had an uncontrolled gas emission on May 27 during a workover operation. The blowout began at Well No 5 in OIL’s Baghjan Oilfield, adjoining the ecologically fragile Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, on May 27. To make matters worse, the well caught fire on June 9 and killing two firefighters, while an engineer died on the site in September following electrocution.
Oil India managed to douse the fire at the well head in August, but a flare pit near the well continued to burn.
The company had brought in experts from Singapore-based company Alert ,the US and Canada to control the blow-out. World’s largest civilian transport Antonov An-24 aircraft lifts Red Deer Company ( Piston Well Service Inc.) to India to battle nightmare well blowout . The well was killed by 60 tonnes of the snubbing unit, flown in from Canada’s Calgary by an Antonov An-24, reached the site on November 4. The fire and the well was blocked off by a process called snubbing, in which the well was laced with a cement-laced chemical mud.
OIL initiated the process of injecting “kill fluid” or cement-laced chemical mud, the final phase of well-snubbing operation, about 11 a.m. on 15th November to kill the blowout well. The operation was headed by an eight-member global experts’ team along with officials of the OIL’s crisis management team.After a long battle of 172 days, Baghjan blowout well has been successfully killed. Fire has been doused off completely.
