Joan Trumpauer Mulholland Audio Clip -- Arlington, VA Lunch Counter Sit-ins
Listen to an audio clip of Joan Trumpauer Mulholland. She participated in the Arlington lunch counter sit-ins in June of 1960, which led to the desegregation of lunch counters across Arlington, VA, just 13 days later. The sit-ins were protests to challenge widespread segregation policies. There are seven card designs by Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr., one commemorating each of the local sit-in locations. This project is organized by the Arlington Art Truck and Arlington Public Art which are programs of Arlington Arts. It is in collaboration with the County’s Historic Preservation Program, Arlington Public Library, Center for Local History and Arlington Transit’s Art on the ART bus program. The community partner is The Black Heritage Museum of Arlington.
