Kathleen Ferrier was an amazingly gifted performer who sang with some of the world’s best conductors, composers, and singers during the 1940s and early 1950s, among them Otto Klemperer, Bruno Walter, Herbert von Karajan, Fritz Busch, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Benjamin Britten and Sir John Barbirolli – a veritable “Who’s Who” of post-War German and British music.

Ferrier's claim to real musical greatness rests on her performances of Mahler, Brahms, Schumann, Schubert and Bach. Her recordings of their Song Cycles, Lieder, Symphonies and Masses are still considered to be the best performances of these works.

The documentary “Kathleen Ferrier” restores something of Ferrier’s own personality and subjectivity to her story by incorporating excerpts from her letters and diaries that have come to light only in recent years and are not widely known.
