Q&A with Emilio Estevez | TIFF Stay-at-Home Cinema | TIFF 2020

The magic of filmgoing together, at home. TIFF Stay-at-Home Cinema hosted a virtual Q&A with Emilio Estevez and Cameron Bailey on Thursday, April 16, on Instagram Live (@tiff_net), before a screening of THE BREAKFAST CLUB.

We want to share the magic of filmgoing together while we watch from home. With this in mind, TIFF has curated a series from Crave’s extensive selection of titles, accompanied by conversations with special guests via Instagram. Learn more on http://TIFF.net/stayathome.

A teen-movie milestone, THE BREAKFAST CLUB takes a simple premise — five high-school students from different social groups who are forced to spend a full-day detention together — and turns it into a funny and touching exploration of teen culture and identity. With nothing to do but sit and talk (and get high for an impromptu dance number), the five young people gradually discover that they share a lot of the same fears, anxieties, and vulnerabilities; and as the day wears on, they begin to break down the artificial boundaries that separate them. Wittily and insightfully scripted by teen-movie godhead John Hughes, and featuring charismatic performances from its wonderful young cast — comprised of Emilio Estevez (as The Jock), Molly Ringwald (The Princess), Judd Nelson (The Rebel), Ally Sheedy (The Outcast), and Anthony Michael Hall (The Nerd) — THE BREAKFAST CLUB is a bona fide ’80s classic.
