Apartment Sessions: Iceland, Episode 18 - Ring Road (Drew Krasner)

"Highway 1, affectionately known as the Ring Road, describes Iceland’s outer edges through lengths of wet green moss and black sand and craggy mountains and falling water. A holy vastness fills the minds of drivers and passengers alike as cars seem to float forward inside landscapes whose reality requires your suspension of disbelief. A blessed insignificance enters your heart as stark open scenes break normal scales of perception and hold your eyes directly to the cosmic dirt of our Earth. An old, old story takes hold.

On this circular road and on Iceland’s countless other winding gravel roads, the small village that Apartment Sessions created that fall bore witness together, drove through unseasonable snow together, opened up together, slept through sickness together, helped each other through together. A caravan of ten vehicles followed one another with trust and determination, split up and reformed, took turns slowly and forded happenstance mud puddles, drove and drove and drove. We suspended disbelief to allow the unbelievable to breathe itself into being, all of us floating humbly inside and outside of windows, always alongside an invisible and guiding wind." - Drew Krasner
