PIA Returns to Manchester After 5 Years | Smog Enters Punjab From India | 1:30 AM News Updates | 26 Oct, 2025
After five years, a Pakistan International Airlines flight from Islamabad has landed in Manchester, marking the airline’s long-awaited return to the UK. The Boeing 777 carrying 284 passengers was greeted with cheers and celebrations from the British-Pakistani community. The resumption follows the lifting of a UK ban earlier this year. Earlier, a special ceremony was arranged in Islamabad to celebrate resumption of the air route. Aviation Minister Khawaja Asif called this achievement the beginning of a new chapter in the history of PIA.
Officials from Pakistan and Afghanistan have had a second round of high-stakes talks in Istanbul to build a verifiable system to curb cross-border terrorism. The meeting follows last week’s ceasefire agreement in Doha that ended days of deadly clashes. Pakistan is pushing for concrete guarantees from the Afghan Taliban to dismantle TTP sanctuaries and prevent future attacks. For that, Islamabad has proposed joint intelligence-sharing, real-time monitoring, and a third-party oversight mechanism, potentially headed by Turkiye and Qatar.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep concern over the resurgence of terrorism in Balochistan and other parts of Pakistan, emphasizing that peace and prosperity depend on collective national resolve. He says security agencies are making daily sacrifices to restore peace, and that the province’s development is crucial to the country’s overall progress.
Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi have agreed to boost coordination on strategic, economic, and security matters. According to the military’s media wing, the meeting took place in Cairo, in which the leaders highlighted long-standing ties between the two countries and reaffirmed shared goals for regional peace and stability. During his visit, the army chief also met Egypt’s defence officials and the Grand Imam of Al Azhar.
The Punjab Home Department has extended the implementation of Section 144 across the province for another eight days. Under the extended order, all types of protests, meetings, processions, rallies, sit-ins, and public gatherings remain strictly banned throughout Punjab. A complete ban has also been imposed on the display of all kinds of weapons. Additionally, the illegal use of loudspeakers has been prohibited under Section 144, along with the publication and distribution of any inflammatory, hateful, or sectarian material.
Pakistan and Iran have taken a major step forward in strengthening bilateral ties, agreeing to launch joint initiatives in logistics, trade, and transport. The decision comes during high-level talks in Islamabad where Federal Ministers Abdul Aleem Khan, Jam Kamal Khan, and Hanif Abbasi met with Iranian Minister Farzana Sadiq, who is currently visiting Pakistan. During the meeting, both sides agreed to establish a joint committee aimed at resolving trade challenges along the Pakistan-Iran border.
Pakistan International Airlines has officially resumed its flight operations to the United Kingdom after a five-year suspension. The inaugural flight from Islamabad to Manchester was launched in a special ceremony where Aviation Minister Khawaja Asif was the chief guest, signaling what he called “the beginning of a new chapter in the history of PIA". The minister said this achievement was the result of the current government’s correct priorities and continuous hard work.
