Lawn Update Day 8 Tenacity Herbicide Challenge. How to fix an ugly lawn using Tenacity Herbicide

Thanks for tuning in. Today we checkout our lawn project. It's been 8 days since we started. The results speak for themselves. There are lots of weeds and less desirable grass types that have been affected by the Tenacity herbicide. There are some hard to do weeds that don't appear to be effected at all.

Here's the recap. Weeds and grasses effected:
Johnsongrass, orchardgrass, dandelion, thistle, clover, foxtail, purslane, goosegrass and yellow nutsedge.

Not effected: morning glory / bindweed, spurge, bunching tall fescue, common mallow

All in all I feel like we're moving in the right direction. Some of the grass seed that we put down has already germinated. I used a blended mix of Kentucky Bluegrass and Rhizomatous Tall Fescue by Barenbrug. I've had really good seed germination in the past and I'm happy to say it's working.

Fixing an ugly lawn isn't always easy. I feel that using Tenacity has made the job a lot easier. It will be interesting to see what the future hold and how good of a job it really does.

I was a little worried about the weed seed germination. I ended up measuring the soil and ground temperatures with a meat thermometer that I found for sale at Bed Bath and Beyond. It was $13 and gives you an instant reading. I have been pleased with the thermometer. I've been using the thermometer for about 5 months and it's still working well. The ground temperatures ended up reading at 65 Degrees which is well within the see germinating temperatures that we need.

Now I don't expect the lawn to look picture perfect this season. The point of what we are doing is establishing enough new grass so when spring comes we can get some really good rhizomatous push. The rhizomes will eventually fill in all the bald areas and help keep the weeds out.
