'Ohrwurm' selection performed by Tabea Debus, Elizabeth Kenny, Reiko Ichise
This is a selection of toe-tappingly infectious and beautiful melodies that emerge from musical folk memory and lodge themselves in the listener’s mind - in other words, an 'earworm' (or 'Ohrwurm')
German-born Tabea is an outstanding virtuoso, collaborator, teacher and communicator. She constantly explores the old and the new through her programming, commissions and innovative ways of looking at music. A regular guest on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune and Early Music Show, she has released four solo discs.
Tabea visited the Granary in autumn 2021 with Elizabeth Kenny and Reiko Ichise to make this recording; all three are amongst the finest performers of early music in Europe.
'This ‘earworm’ programme has been cooking for a long time' said Tabea 'and will continue to do so because it changes depending on who I play with... our personal earworms change with the things that we are fascinated by at the time. So in once concert, we often end up playing music from the medieval 14th century period all the way through to the high baroque'.
Cameras, sound, direction & editing by David Lefeber
Music performed by Tabea Debus, Elizabeth Kenny, Reiko Ichise
Stapleford Granary is very grateful to YCAT, Tabea Debus, Elizabeth Kenny & Reiko Ichise for kind permission to release this performance.
