"In my opinion, the upcoming presidential elections (referring to the Russian presidential elections of 2024) are of an extremely responsible nature. We will do everything to ensure that they will be held with dignity and fairness. But at the same time, we must understand that the elections will take place in conditions of a big and terrible war."

STORYLINE:
Russia's Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov whose son, Leonid Zyuganov, is running for Moscow's Mayor office, voted on Sunday at one of the capital's polling stations.

Gennady Zyuganov was accompanied by Leonid at the polling station.

After he voted, Zyuganov spoke to reporters outside the polling station.

Zyuganov referred to the presidential election that is expected to take place in the spring of 2024.

"In my opinion, the upcoming presidential elections are of an extremely responsible nature. We will do everything to ensure that they will be held with dignity and fairness," Zyuganov noted.

Zyuganov added "the elections will take place in conditions of a big and terrible war."

Gennady Zyuganov is known for his support of Vladimir Putin's military campaign in Ukraine.

Muscovites are voting for the capital’s mayor and deputies in 13 municipalities.

Five candidates compete in the Moscow's mayoral elections - the incumbent Mayor Sergei Sobyanin of United Russia, Russian Liberal Democratic Party member Boris Chernyshov, lawmaker of the New People Party Vladislav Davankov, Communist Party member Leonid Zyuganov and lawmaker of A Just Russia Dmitry Gusev.

Local elections are also held in the Ukrainian territories annexed a year ago, along with dozens of Russian regions that elect local governors and legislators.
