Joe Biden getting through debate unscathed is ‘a victory on its own’

The test for Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential debate will be if he can keep his cool, not have any “big slips, or lose his train of thought,” according to Sky News political reporter Annelise Nielsen.

The first presidential debate will be held in Cleveland on Tuesday (local time) moderated by Fox News’ Chris Wallace marking the first time President Donald Trump goes face to face with Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

Ms Nielsen said this debate is “more important than ever” given many Americans are at home and have the option to vote early.

“The big challenges for Donald Trump is to make sure he doesn’t appear too aggressive, too belittling of Joe Biden, but at the same time keeping his presidential presence,” she said.

“For Joe Biden, it’s going to be keeping that energy up for an hour and a half”.

Sky News host Andrew Bolt said if Joe Biden gets through the debate “unscathed, that’ll be a victory on its own”.

“He is getting on in his years, he has had some pretty notable gaffes in his careers, so they’ve (his campaign team) been really fighting hard against the perception that he’s going to stumble,” Ms Nielsen said.

“The Democrats are trying to make this (election) a referendum on Donald Trump. They want the focus on him and whether they (the voters) like him or dislike him”.
