Dr. Maika's Employee Message: You are getting a raise

I would like to start this message with news you may have already heard: you are getting a raise.

You will start to see the pay increase in your first check of the new contract year. And in November, you will receive a one-time retention supplement.

Our District’s financial staff worked hard to make this happen during a Legislative session in which lawmakers did not provide additional funding to school districts.

Nevertheless, we are able to make this happen for you. At a minimum, eligible hourly employees will receive a six percent increase from the midpoint of the newly proposed pay range and eligible professional employees will receive a four percent increase from the midpoint of the newly proposed pay range. Many employees will receive more as we make targeted adjustments to specific positions. Eligible teachers and librarians will receive a general pay increase equal to $2,300 with additional targeted adjustments for certain years of experience. Then, in November, everyone will see a two percent retention supplement.

This is part of an overall $35 million compensation package approved Monday night by our Board of Trustees – the largest package in more than 20 years. We made sure that the pay package touched every eligible employee.

You can expect to receive specific information on your individual pay increase next week from Human Resources. Both a letter and an e-mail will detail how the pay raise benefits you specifically. If you have any questions, please reach out to the HR team (neisd.net/hr).

I visited Austin and lawmakers many times during the regular legislative session between January and May and remained hopeful that elected officials would use a historical surplus to help offset the inflation impacting you. That did not happen. The Governor has signaled that he may call lawmakers back in the future, and my staff and I will monitor Austin closely in the event a special session addresses school finance.

District staff and I continue to review the effectiveness and efficiency of our programs, practices, and procedures. We are using the Stewardship Priority of the Balanced District Scorecard to guide us as we seek ways to trim costs, save, and manage funds and resources responsibly.

You are a valuable contributor to the success of our District, and I am so grateful that you chose to share your talents and passions with this community. Enjoy your summer.

I’ll see you around the District.
