Over a 7 year period from the late 80s to the mid 90s, popular music changed almost daily and once powerful genres and artists could be extinct within just a short time. Radio formats changed and the labels stopped taking chances.

The end of the Rock era was coming into view. One second band like Guns N Roses, Motley Crue, Warrant, and Skid Row were all over the mainstream charts and the next minute the term Grunge was coined for the music coming out of Seattle and bands like Nirvana and Soundgarden were all of the rage.

the Rise of Hip Hop and Teen Pop was upon us. Kurt Cobain passed away in 1994, and from there Rock changed forever. It was no longer the dominant genre. Fast forward to 1997 a year after Alanis Morrissette dominated pop music with Jagged Little Pill, radio was all over the place. At the top of the charts you had Jewel and Puff Daddy. Hanson and BackStreet Boys, Leann Rimes and Spice Girls. Rock was on the downlow Enter Third Eye Blind. A band that had formed in San Francisco in 1993 and signed it’s major label deal with Elektra records in 96. It was later reported as the biggest publishing deal every given to an un signed artist.

This song where’s it’s pain on the sleeve with Jenkins pouring his whole soul into the lyrics. It might be my favorite song off the album and was a healing outlet for me when I was going through a divorce. Jenkins has a way with words. The last single from the album is one of Third Eye Blind’s signature songs. Jumper is another emotional wunderkind from Stephan Jenkins. It was a massive hit after it was released in the late summer of 98 going to #5 on the charts and extended the already long run of the album as beacon of 97 and 98. Third Eye Blind’s Debut album has gone 6 times platinum since its release and continues to hold up today as one of the best albums of the 90s and Third Eye Blind is still going strong. Jumper has an incredible story behind it. Stephen Jenkins told be about the song’s inspiration and some of the musical elements of it. So without further adieu we’ll show that now
