MONSTER TRAIN: Beginner's Guide Walkthrough - New Roguelite Deckbuilding Card Game

Monster Train is a new Deckbuilding Roguelike game (same genre as Slay the Spire), it's quickly become my favourite game in the genre an in this guide I give an overview of the gameplay, it's features and a walkthrough of a full run showing how to play the game, what set's it apart and some tips for understanding deck building and strategy.

Deckbuilding Roguelites are all about making a deck of cards, upgrading it and finding combos and powerful strategies within a session of the game itself - rather than building a deck prior to the game like in Trading Card Games. There's no buying packs (or MTX at all here). Strategy, creativity and experience will see you to victory as you make decisions as you progress.

Monster Train really expands on the idea of "upgrading" cards - Slay the Spire had simple card upgrades that were linear (the same each time). In Monster Train there are modular upgrades you can apply in combinations of your choice - reduce Ember (mana) cost, double effects, add spell power, and combine other effects to create some really insane combos. Pay a lot of attention to the card upgrading, it's a huge part of winning a game of Monster Train.
