World at War: The creation

This is the story of World at War.

Blake McFarland's World at War sculpture will be held at the Devos Place Convention Center for the 2018 Artprize contest from September 19- October 7th.

World at War is a larger than life hero character emerging out of a pile of waste. Each piece of garbage was be gathered from the remote California coastline as well as local landfill and represents everyday items that we humans discard . The hero character is hoisting up a broken and collapsing earth, representing our society's wastefulness and detrimental impact on our environment. The theme of this sculpture is to make each viewer reflect their own decisions on waste disposal and to be more conscious about our environment. This sculpture took over 3 months to create and has over 1500 hidden screws.
