Queensland building boom stalled by supply shortage
Queensland’s home building industry boom has seen a shortage in supplies – particularly timber – with work on new homes being stalled as crews wait for materials.
The state reported the number of new dwellings was up 61 per cent annually, about triple the national rate of increase.
Timber prices have soared as the shortage is felt world-wide.
Low interest rates, government incentives and interstate migration have helped drive the state’s building boom.
