Mendelssohn: Prelude and Fugue in G Major, Op.37 No.2

Pep Organ is back for 2023 with the beautiful Prelude and Fugue in G Major composed by Felix Mendelssohn. This work was composed between 1836-37, when Mendelssohn was in his late 20s. These works were seminal in the Bach revival movement, especially in the organ scene, as Mendelssohn's prelude/fugue pairing and use of counterpoint clearly points back to the Baroque master. However, Mendelssohn's own romantic sensibilities seep through the work through, from its melodious prelude to the rather orchestral treatment of the texture at the end of the fugue.

I apologise for the delay in our uploads- unfortunately I am still recovering from my tennis elbow injury, and remain unable to practice extensively.
