In part 4 of our Honda CRF450R engine rebuild series, we’ll start at the bottom and work up. Our bottom end rebuild on our CRF450 is the first step, and we’ll start by prepping the crankcase halves. This involves removing and replacing old bearings and getting everything clean.
Next, we’ll work on installing the transmission on the CRF450R. We’ll move everything into the crankcase in one piece and then get the shift forks into position.
Then, we’ll get the crankshaft in place. This is among the new components in the Wiseco Garage Buddy kit for the CRF450, and once we get it installed we can work on closing the crankshaft case halves and getting them bolted. We’ll also take some time to test the transmission and make sure the movement is smooth, since we don’t want to build the engine up any further if we’ve made a mistake here.
Then we’ll install the timing chain and drive gears on our CRF450, and finish off this phase of the project by installing the rotor and stator.
The next step is the piston and cylinder installation. Check out part 5 of our CRF450 rebuild here: https://youtu.be/jGA53nEicYU
