Russia: Memorial service held for hero policeman Nurbagandov
Memorial events took place in Sergokala, Wednesday, in honour of murdered Dagestani policeman Magomed Nurbagandov, who was killed on July after being kidnapped by militants. The city’s authorities unveiled two memorial plates for their fallen hero – one in the house where he lived and other in the school where he studied.
The ceremony began with a minute of silence, and afterwards local students read poems devoted to Nurbagandov’s courageous deed. Father of the policeman, Nurbagand Nurbagandov and Deputy Minister of Interior Ministry of Dagestan Vasili Salyutin gave speeches at the ceremony. Salyutin said that Nurbagandov’s final words ‘work, brothers’, “have become an appeal to fight terrorism and extremism" all around Dagestan and Russia.
Dagestani police officer Nurbagandov was murdered on July 10 after militants captured him and his cousin, Abdurashid Nurbagandov, and demanded to give a statement advising other officers to leave the police force. Russian President Vladimir Putin subsequently awarded him with the Hero of Russia Honour.
SOT, Vasily Salyutin, Deputy Minister Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan, (Russian): "His words 'work, brothers' have become an appeal to fight terrorism and extremism not only for law enforcement personnel but also for all sensible people who want to live in a peaceful and quiet Dagestan, in a free and peaceful Russia."
SOT, Nurbagand Nurbagandov, Father of Magomed Nurbagandov (Russian): "Give no quarter to those fleas, to those filthy people. You don’t need even a drop of pity. Let their legs and the land of their ancestors shiver at the sight of your uniform."
