Utopia by Thomas More | Thomas More's Utopia
Hi friends,
This video is about the masterpiece "Utopia" by Thomas More. it was greatly influenced by Plato's "Republic". Thomas More's "Utopia" represents the flowering of the spirit of Renaissance in England. "Utopia" was originally written in Latin and later on it was translated into English by Ralph Robinson. the term "Utopia" is derived from a Greek word meaning "Nowhere". Thomas More has given the description of an imaginary kingdom of his ideals. Thomas More's purpose is to paint a 'republic' after his own ideals and thereby to expose the evils of the actual set up of his own country: England.
Thomas More's Utopia comprises two books. In the first book, we are told how the writer and his friend Peter Giles happened to meet a Portuguese traveller named Hythloday. Utopia is not merely an image of Thomas More's idealizing imagination but a criticism of life.
