Vanderbilt Mausoleum at Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY

Cornelius Vanderbilt died in 1877 with an estimated fortune of over $100 million, $215 billion in today's terms. He lies buried in the Vanderbilt Mausoleum, on a plot of land he purchased at Moravian Cemetery in New Dorp, Staten Island. The Vanderbilt mausoleum, designed by Richard Morris Hunt and constructed in 1885–1886, is part of the family's private section within the cemetery. The mausoleum is a replica of a Romanesque church in Arles, France.
The landscaped grounds around the Vanderbilt mausoleum were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. The Vanderbilt section is not open to the public.
