Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin, KBE (16 April 1889 – 25 December 1977) was an English comic actor and film-maker who rose to fame in the silent film era. He began his career as a vaudeville comic, and later moved into films, where he became an iconic actor in the silent movie era. Chaplin wrote and directed most of his movies. His life was not without its share of controversy, ranging from his involvement with much younger women to him being accused of communistic leanings. He died at the age of 88 years old from a stroke. Even after his death, his coffin was stolen and put to ransom, but fortunately, the culprits were caught and his coffin recovered.

Most people know Chaplin as an actor. Few people know him as a musician. Besides writing and directing movies, Chaplin composed most of the music for his films.

Limelight is a semi-autobiographical movie, detailing the life of an aging vaudeville actor who is in love with a much younger woman, Terry. Terry's Theme or Eternally, is the most famous song from this film. Here it is arranged for the violin and the piano.
