Rezervația naturală complexă Cheile Turzii se găsește la circa 7 Km vest de Turda, fiind cea mai cunoscută dintre cele 22 de defilee din Munții Trascăului. Cheile s-au format datorită Pârâului Hăsdate care de-a lungul a milioane de ani a străpuns și și-a adâncit treptat albia în calcarele jurasice al crestei Petrești. Cheile se vizitează numai pe jos, lungimea traseului fiind de circa 2 km din care defileul propriu-zis are 1.270m. Vizitarea se poate face de obicei pornind dinspre aval (satul Cheia), fie dinspre amonte (satul Petrești). Traseul este împărțit în 5 segmente destul de egale prin patru punți suspendate pe care turiștii trec de pe un mal pe celălalt. Capetele traseului sunt liniștite, dar în zona centrală apar unele porțiuni mai periculoase, din fericire prevăzute cu cabluri de siguranță. Turiștii sunt răsplătiți prin priveliști superbe, de o frumsețe sălbatecă. Cheile oferă condiții excelente de alpinism, având peste 350 de trasee de escaladă și alpinism. Rezervația naturală complexă Cheile Turzii a fost înființată în 1938, cele 234 hectare găzduind circa 1.000 specii de plante (multe endemice și rarități), animale rare, geologie, peisaje pitorești dar și istorie străveche sau mai nouă. În Chei sunt peste 60 de peșteri, grote și rămășițe ale acestora, din care numai 8 depășesc 20 m lungime. În unele din aceste peșteri au fost identificate artefacte care atestă locuirea în perioada Paleolitică (acum sute de mii de ani). O parte din peșteri sunt accesibile din traseul de vizitare situat în lungul văii. Subtitrarea vă oferă o mulțime de informații, iar spre finalul videoclipului puteți citi două frumoase legende (românească și ungurească) privind formarea Cheilor.
The Complex Nature Reserve Turda Gorge is located about 7 km west of Turda (Cluj County, Transylvania), being the most famous of the 22 gorges in the Trascau Mountains. The gorge were formed due to the Hasdatele Stream which, through millions of years, penetrated and gradually deepened its bed in the Jurassic limestone of the Petresti ridge. Gorge are visited only on foot, the length of the route being about two kilometer from which the gorge (strictly speaking) has 1270m. Visiting can usually be done from the downstream (Cheia village) or from the upstream (Petresti village). The route is divided into 5 fairly equal segments by four suspended footbridges that tourists pass from one bank to the other. The ends of the route are quiet, but there are more dangerous parts in the central area, fortunately provided with safety cables. Tourists are rewarded with beautiful views of wild beauty. Gorge offers excellent climbing conditions, with over 350 climbing and alpinism lines. The Turda Gorge Nature Reserve was established in 1938, the 234 hectares housing about 1,000 species of plants (many endemic and rarities), rare animals, geology, scenic landscapes, but also ancient and newer history. There are over 60 caves, grottoes and remains of them, of which only 8 are more than 20 m long. In some of these caves were identified artifacts that attest their habitation by the Paleolithic man (hundreds of thousands of years ago). Some of the caves are accessible from the trail along the valley.
