As a talented but shy teenager, Celeste would record songs in her bedroom and upload them to YouTube. Now, she is a Brit award-winning artist who was recently nominated for an Oscar.

Celeste’s is the fourth of eight masterclasses in the Vogue Visionaries series by British Vogue and YouTube, which sees experts from the worlds of acting, beauty, fashion, and more – including Naomi Scott, Sam McKnight, and Alexa Chung – share practical advice and tips on how to succeed in their chosen field.

Over five chapters, Celeste lets us in on the secrets to her success, taking the viewer through every step of her songwriting process, from finding inspiration for lyrics to creating a melody. She demonstrates how to warm up your voice and reveals the trick every new musician uses to create buzz around their early shows. Her tip for remaining motivated when you’re all out of ideas? “Don’t be scared to write a bad song.” Looking back on how far she’s come since her days singing in her bedroom, she says the journey has been “surreal”. But while there’s “always a portion of fortune”, her success is a testament to the “hard work that goes into everything”.
