Northern Lights - Kiruna

The elusive northern lights. Everyday life for some, a distant dream for others.

Since the first time I witnessed the northern lights I've been somewhat obsessed about capturing it on camera. After my move to the south of Sweden it's been harder to do that. To be able to see the green dance so far south it needs to be a really strong display of northern lights. The lack of northern lights in the south made me to book a trip to Kiruna in hope of some action in the sky.

I spent a week in Kiruna but neither the weather nor the aurora activity were on my side. The forecast for Monday 8 February said it would be overcast all night long, but despite that I went out in hope of capturing some stars. The clouds showed up a lot later than the forecast had said and after just a short time out in the dark I saw how the green light started to dance on the sky above. The joy knew no boundaries and I just stood there, with my arms up in the air, enjoying the show. No matter how many times I will see the northern lights - it will always be a special and magical moment!
