Travel with Abbee

Three decades in aviation and two and a half decades in Military Service took Abbee to parts of India that one does not easily find on the maps commonly available. However, such locations are also a traveler’s delight. This session will take you to a few such places. Also, aviation in itself is different. It has many stories that are regularly created.

During the interaction, expect to hear a lot about his various experiences as a soldier across the entire expanse of India. The journey will commence around Pune during his training days. The journey would then move northward and then toward the Western part of India, and then of course the wonderful Eastern part of India. A keen hiker, he will speak about a couple of hikes, especially one of the best in India, which is the silent valley hike. With an experience of more than three decades in aviation, and having flown more than 15 varieties of aircraft, he would also endeavor to tell you some of the experiences of the third dimension. During the course of the interaction, expect to hear names of places in India which you may find difficult to locate on the map and a few anecdotes based on real-life experience. Wg Cdr Abhijit Gokhale is a retired Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter pilot. Born in Mumbai, he did his entire schooling in Baroda, Gujarat, and joined the National Defence Academy in 1988. Nicknamed ABBEE by the IAF, he has been given the suffix TheRebel for his “never say die attitude” and his motto of “nothing can be achieved unless you try it at least once. Not failure but low aim is a crime.” During his IAF service, he traveled the length and breadth of the country and served in remote locations, in challenging terrain and the most inhospitable weather conditions. A keen runner, the veteran also rides two motorcycles, one of which is a Harley Davidson. He is also a keen cyclist and has undertaken daylong solo cycle trips. His hobbies include playing the harmonica and the drum set. He also sings for the Jashn musical group. His other activities include guiding young students in joining the Armed Forces and Soft Skills Training. He has also been a guide for MBA students and is currently a consultant for a Hindi film. Currently pursuing his MBA in Aviation, he is settled in Mumbai and works for an airline.
