Breeds in the forest zone of North America, Europe 🌏, North and Central Asia; 🌍Africa - only in Morocco. ☀️ To the north, it is distributed to the forest-tundra, to the south - to #Italy, #Spain, #Asia Minor, #Palestine, #Northern Iran, then found in South-Western #Siberia, #Altai, in the north-western part of Mongolia, in Western China, Tibet and Japan. Most populations are sedentary and, as a rule, adhere to one territory throughout their lives. The only migratory #population is considered to be the one that nests in the north and north-west of North America - for the winter they migrate south.

Goshawks are #birds of prey that hunt birds, mammals, invertebrates, medium and large reptiles. The prey can be up to half the weight of the predator. The diet of different populations differs from each other and depends on the surrounding area, but in general they hunt hares, squirrels, Siberian grouses and hazel grouses.

Appearance, like the anatomy of a hawk, is determined by the terrain and #lifestyle. The predator has excellent eyesight, 8 times superior in acuity to humans. The hawk's brain receives a binocular (volumetric) image due to the special arrangement of the #eyes - not on the sides of the head, but somewhat closer to the beak.
The eyes of adult birds are colored yellow / yellow-orange, sometimes with a shade of red or reddish-brown (tyvik). In some species, the iris brightens slightly with age. The hawk is armed with a strong hooked beak with a characteristic feature - the absence of a tooth above the beak.

🌈 It is interesting! The hawk hears perfectly, but he distinguishes smells not so much with his nostrils as ... with his mouth. If a bird is given stale meat, it will most likely grab it with its beak, but then it will certainly throw it away.
