For Heritage Week, Waterford historian Maxine Keoghan is exploring some of the long history between Waterford and the island of Newfoundland.

We begin our week with a brief introduction to Waterford's links to the province of Newfoundland in Canada, their historical trading and fishing links and how this helped the devlopment of Waterford.

Maxine Keoghan gained her PhD from NUIG where her research focussed on the Irish diaspora. In 2017, Maxine travelled to Newfoundland to study the heritage of the people of South East Ireland, thanks to a scholarship from the Ireland Canada University Foundation.
