Why Are There So Many Sexual Misconduct Allegations in Smash Bros?

If you’ve been on the internet at all in the last two weeks or so, you’ve seen the incredible amount of allegations of sexual misconduct in various gaming communities.

But one community has seen a truly insane amount of allegations. At last count, over 100 members of the Super Smash Bros. competitive community have been accused of sexual misconduct, and that number has a lot of people asking the same question:

How did the Smash community let this happen?
